My primary duty was as the chair of the ENT Department. As the chair I have been able to oversee strong growth in the department. Below are what I consider to be my major accomplishments as chair.
This academic year saw a major change in my duties as I became the interim department chair of the Engineering Technology Department. The duties that followed were the administrative duties that go with the job of department chair. Review of department faculty, strategic planning of department initiatives, development of new programs, meeting of industry and external representatives, planning and holding Industrial Advisory board meeting, working on articulation agreements with Community Colleges, and general promotion of the department. Job title for year 2000 was upgraded to Assistant Dean for Distributed Learning. This title includes development and management of Web Based, Video (FEEDS), Interactive TV, and any other off campus academic programs. Also included are scheduling of academic programs responsibilities. Retained management of computer support for the combined College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Courses Taught
- Developed new curriculum and taught the EGN 1930 Engineering Concepts and Methods Course. This course included a cornerstone freshman design "potato racers" which was extremely successful. Course had a combined enrollment of 500 students and over 100 project teams that required innovative grading management systems to be employed.

Conference Papers and Presentations
- Two papers admitted to Southeast Regional ASEE conference at Virginia Tech, "Development of the UCF Freshman Engineering Program", and "The Use of Interactive TV to Deliver Engineering Programs to a Remote Site", unfortunately became ill shortly before the conference and was unable to attend and give presentations (presentations given by Issa Batarseh).
Research Awards
- Awarded grant for project "Development of a Pawn Shop Receipt Reporting System" for the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.
- Awarded Grant for the "Development of a Drug Database Information System" for the Florida Department of law Enforcement.
Workshops and Seminars
- Panelist and Guest Speaker, "Educating Practicing Professional Engineers", Northern Arizona University, May 22 and 23, 2000
- Program Chair and Director/Developer of the "Laptops in the Classroom Conference", 2 day conference with 300 attendees, 30 speakers. Program developed in conjunction with Dell Computer Corporation. Conference was held Feb 3, and 4 and was extremely successful.
- Developed and presented presentations, "Enterprise Wide - Wireless Technology", "Development and Design of a High Tech Classroom Building" at the "Laptops in the Classroom" conference.
- Miscellaneous Review and Development of the Leapfrog Smart Card Entry System Committee - tasked with the coordination and development of the College Smart Card Based key entry system for the COECS.
- Coordinated the Classroom Improvement Program for the College of Engineering and Computer Science, total award of $60,000 to be used to design and implement high-tech classroom facilities for the College. Design room improvements to support interactive TV, computer based classroom, and video tape classrooms.
- Presentation of the implementation and use of wireless technologies for the UCF Technology Day Fair.
- Service to the Math and Engineering integration committee charged with developing a technology based math course and implementing the program for the Fall 2000 semester.
- Named Faculty Co-Advisor to the STAR (Students of Technology Achieve Rewards) program for the College of Engineering and Computer Science.
- Named Faculty Advisor to the College of Engineering and Computer Science Student Council.

Courses Taught
- Developed and served as course coordinator for the EGN 1006 - "Introduction to the Engineering Profession" course. This included the development of a large scale project and the training of 33 mentors to serve the lab sections of this course. Over 20 faculty, 600+ students, and 33 teaching assistants were coordinated for this course. Also included one dual enrollment section at Edgewater HS.
- Developed and taught EEL 5937 - "Internet Software Engineering" summer semester. This was a second year new prep - covering new internet software topics such as XML, XML Database Integration, and e-commerce solutions.
- Developed and taught first offering of EGN 1930 "Engineering Concepts and Methods" course. Developed all computer laboratory materials, web-based delivery system, GTA lab section tracking system, project tracking system, and randomized on-line quiz bank to support course. First offering had 450 students and 24 lab sections.

- Developed and Presented "Handling Classroom Ethics" workshop for the Graduate Teaching Assistant Training - Dec 2 and 3.
- Developed and Presented a University Workshop for Freshmen, "Hands-on Introduction to Engineering" for non-majors. This workshop was given by myself and other trained faculty to groups of 20 freshmen as part of a "Freshman Success" University Pilot. The workshop was a true hands-on experience where students designed and manufactured "LEGO" starships and competed against other teams on time. Developed and presented workshops on "Ethical Consideration in the Classroom" and "Working with Technology" for the UCF Faculty Winter Workshop, held December 14 and 15.
- Developed and taught Workshop, " Teaching students to be effective problem solvers " and "Collaborative Learning Strategies", August 10, 11 - for the UCF GTA orientation.
- Organized and Presented the One Day Seminar (Continuing Education Seminar, 40 registrants) - "How to Design and Conduct a Freshman Seminar" given April 28
